5 Jun 2017 - Iceland Day 11: Perlan and Nauthólsvík Beach

Perlan (The Pearl) is a landmark building in Reykjavík. It is 25.7 metres (84.3 ft) high. Perlan is situated on the hill Öskjuhlíð, where there had been hot water storage tanks for decades.
There is currently renovation works going on inside Perlan.  It seems like they are building a Planetarium, Northern Lights museum and the Icelandic Museum of Natural History, which will be opened sometimes in 2018.
On the 4th level of Perlan, there is an outdoor observation deck where we had a 360 degree panoramic view of Reykjavik.
About 900 metres away from Perlan, we arrived at Nauthólsvík Beach.
Nauthólsvík was opened in 2001 to the delight of residents and tourists alike, and now attracts an estimate of 530.000 guests each year. The creation of the geothermal beach was an ambitious but very successful project, involving the construction of a lagoon with large sea walls, where cold sea and hot geothermal water fuse together resulting in higher temperatures.
This place was packed with people enjoying the use of the hot-tubs, steam-bath, changing facilities and showers.
Jerlene and Javier were having fun playing with sand on the beach.
As it's getting late, we drove to our next accommodation at Keflavík.
