3 Jun 2017 - Iceland Day 9: Eiríksstaðir - Viking Longhouse

Before driving to our next accommodation, we took a detour to Eiríksstaðir, where there is a lovely replica of a Viking long house.
Eiríksstaðir is famous for being the place where Leifur heppni - Leif the Lucky (ca 980-ca 1020) was born. Leif was the first European to discover North America.
The long house is built with a remake of old Viking tools and is said to be the best built long house in all of Europe.
We did not enter the long house because it's closed.  The opening hours during summer is from 9am till 6pm.  Anyway, the exterior was pretty impressive.
From the car park, we had a nice view of the surrounding landscape, especially a series of ice capped mountains from afar.
