2 Jun 2017 - Iceland Day 8: Húsavík

We took a short break at Húsavík, which is well known for its whale watching tours, after a long drive.  The moment we got off from our car, we were overwhelmed by the smell of salted fish.  In Húsavík, the main source of income comes from tourism and fishing. Until recently, Húsavík was the export harbour for silica that was extracted from nearby lake Mývatn.
The most famous landmark of the town is the wooden church Húsavíkurkirkja, built in 1907.
Húsavík has become a centre of whale watching in Iceland due to whales of different species that frequently enter the bay.
The Húsavík Whale Museum is located in the downtown by the harbour.
