29 May 2017 - Iceland Day 4: Dyrhólaey

From Skógafoss, we drove for about 30 mins to reach Dyrhólaey, which means "the hill island with the door hole". Just a short walk from the car park, I could see an extremely cool rock called Arnardrangur (Eagle rock), sticking out from the black sand beach.
The rock draws its name from eagles nesting in the rock but they haven´t nested there since 1850.
It's very picturesque with Reynisdrangar and Reynisfjara in the background but because it was raining pretty heavily, below was the best photos I could capture.
To the west, the whole coastline in the direction of Selfoss is visible - depending on weather conditions, which is bad today.
There is supposed to be a popular Dyrhólaey Arch and Dyrhólaey Lighthouse at the upper area.  However, due to the heavy rain, strong wind and wet road condition, it was not recommended to drive up the hill on the rough gravel road with a 2-wheel drive car.  We decided to give it a miss and drive to the nearby town, Vik, skipping Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach as well.  :-(
