19 Dec 2015 - Tasmania Day 6: Mount Wellington (Kunanyi)

We ended today's "program" with a trip up to Mount Wellington (Kunanyi), which is one of the state's most visited tourist locations.
There was a superb lookout point half way up the mountain.
Mount Wellington is simply a 30 mins drive from Hobart.  The 21-kilometre drive to the summit passes through temperate rainforest to sub-alpine flora and glacial rock formations, ending in panoramic views of Hobart, Bruny Island, South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula.
The summit features a landscape of sub-alpine flora and lichen-encrusted boulders, like those where Jerlene and Javier sat on.
There is a boardwalk leading to several lookout points.
The view from Mount Wellington summit was amazing.  Lookouts and observation decks provide vistas over Hobart and towards the east coast, and to the west over the World Heritage Area of southern Tasmania.
Below is an interpretation center (also a viewing platform) located right at the top which protected us from the blustering winds.
Mount Wellington is a place not to be missed if you are at Hobart.
