21 Dec 2014 - Taiwan Trip Day 8: Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂)

ECFA hotel, like Diary of Taipei hotel, occupies the top two floors of this building.
Breakfast was provided in another branch just across the street (below).
In the morning, we planned to visit Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂).  We took the MRT from Ximen station directly to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall station.  The first building we saw was the National Theater.
Behind the building is a huge open space known as the Liberty Square (自由广场).
This site is important to the development of Taiwan's democracy.
The other end from Liberty Square is the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.
This is the famous monument, landmark and tourists attractions erected in memory of Chiang Kai-Shek, the former president of Republic of China.
From the Memorial Hall, we had a great view of Liberty Square right in front of us, with National Theater and National Concert Hall flanking on the left and right respectively.
We were unable to enter the Memorial Hall itself because it was closed for maintenance till the end of 2016.  As it started to drizzle, we quickly left the place and went to a nearby food court for lunch.  We had beef noodles (牛肉刀削面) and it was delicious.
After lunch, we took the MRT to Xinbeitou station to explore that area which is full of hotspring.  During the train journey, we saw the famous Taiwan Grand Hotel (圆山大饭店) from a distance.
We need to change to another line at Beitou station.  Xinbeitou is just one stop away.  The train on this line only travels between Beitou and Xinbeitou station.  Some of the train cabins had two LED screens showing the history and development of this area.  Interesing.
